Here are 10 bands or musicians who metalheads nod in appreciation of across genre lines. The iconic and influential rock band released their first-ever double album of all acoustic materials, Croweology, in 2010 before taking an extended hiatus to recharge and refresh the band, and currently have returned to the road in 2013 with their Lay Down with Number 13 world tour, which includes a stop along the shore at our fair little. That said, there are a handful of artists who, whether due to their technical ability, dark lyrical themes, or proximity to extreme music, the majority of metal fans will give a pass, and occasionally even get firmly behind. Metal pre-cursors such as Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple have metal's earliest DNA in their sounds, while noise rock shares the aggression inherent in making harsh, dramatic music. Meanwhile, punk itself is about as close as one can get, especially as it gets more and more hardcore. Although they formed merely four years ago (2000 for the arithmetically impaired) in Orange County they’ve been making quite a dent in the music scene. Goth rock is also an obvious sibling in the shadows, as is its close cousin post-punk. Well, I’m not much on the genre myself, but they’re definitely better than As I Lay Dying (which kind of ties in with another one of my reviews). The band that consists of vocalist Tim Lambesis, guitarists Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa, bassist/clean vocalist Josh Gilbert, and drummer Jordan Mancino did an excellent job recording this album and even produced it themselves.

Most everyone is aware that Soundgarden and Alice In Chains veer their grunge closer to the heavy realm, while the technical ability of progressive rockers like Rush and King Crimson could impress even the most stoic of heshers. NEW YORK (Billboard) - Randy Jacksons claim that it qualifies as 'blue-eyed soul' is a stretch (not enough falsettos), but Travis Tritts new album 'The Storm' certainly has some funk-flirting. American metalcore band As I Lay Dying returns after a few-year hiatus with their seventh album Shaped of Fire, released on September 20, 2019. Ultimately, this album is just a shade heavier than As I Lay Dying‘s surprisingly good new effort, so those looking for something a bit heftier should look to the likes of Bound by Fear, Distant or the new Despised Icon. There are plenty of acts that appeal to metalheads without being truly metal, but could be easily lumped in with heavier or more extreme bands. Now it’s onto album number two, Curiouser an album that, to put it quite simply, is a masterpiece in pop that sees Australia’s latest up-and-coming superstar make the full-blown transition.
